Which Season Is Best To Sell Your House?

Is Summer the best season because people are generally happier and want to make the change, or is it Winter as everyone spends more time at home all cosy, or could it be somewhere inbetween? In this guide, we examine which season may be the best for you to sell your home, and the reasons behind it.

Firstly we’ll spring into.. well, Spring.

Spring

The season when the trees blossom and the lambs start bleating, Spring is the best time to sell your house according to experts. This time of year usually isn’t a holiday season; most people are waiting until Summer and therefore are more likely to be home looking for their next house.

The days start getting longer in Spring which sheds your home in it’s best light during viewings, both internally and externally.

Summer

As many people’s favourite season, summer is when lots of us take our much needed annual leave from work. This makes it a great time of year, but not for selling your house. Holidays leave our minds relaxed and not focused on more stressful matters, such as listing your house on the open market and organising viewings.

On top of this, families containing children of school age will need to find care for their children to do viewings. This makes it more difficult and may cause them to delay until a different time of the year.

Autumn

The property market in Autumn tends to pick up again after the Summer lull. Most people are back from their holidays and kids are back at school, freeing up parents’ time to house hunt. Autumn adds a particular attractiveness to a leafy street, which can improve the look of your house exterior.

However, after October the housing market slows down, so if you put your house up for sale in Autumn, prepare yourself for a quick sale.

Winter

Most of us think of one thing when winter comes around – Christmas! Families are less likely to be looking for a new home when the hustle and bustle of the holidays arrive. If you do make the decision to sell up in December, we recommend to wait until January as you may have more luck.

I began writing for Property Press Online in October 2019. Particular areas of interest are housing market news and new developments in the market.
