Tis’ the season!
You may have noticed that your neighbour or community’s have started to put their Christmas lights up. Some of us Brit’s take the duty of putting up Christmas lights very seriously. Some like to go all out.
This will take a look into where some of the most extremely Christmas dressed properties are located within the England.
Westfield
Five miles out of the busy town of Hastings sits the quiet village of Westfield. At Christmas time, the whole village comes together to get into the festive spirit.
In the run up to Christmas, the town decorates the village in all sorts of twinkly lights. The village pulls together to decorate their property’s in order to raise money for charity.
As mentioned they have many twinkly lights plus light up cartoon characters such as Shrek and Minions! Over the past years of the village running this, they have raised just over £35,000.
South Shields
Heading up north to the areas of South Shields, you can find Stan and his Christmas Grotto. The 58-year-old grandfather has been delivering the Christmas spirit to South Shields for years.
Stan poses as Santa Clause at his glittery and magical Grotto. When he spoke to Sky News this year, he said he was unsure how many lights and inflatable decorations he had; but, he commented on how he would have lots of visitors. Also, according to Sky, it took Stan over three days just to separate and out all the different plugs into the right sockets.
The money raised for his display will be going towards the cancer ward at the Royal Victoria Infirmary at Newcastle.

Wellingborough
For nearly three decades the Beetson family have filled their street (Torrington Road) bright with lights. The family are dedicated to making their property Christmassy each year.
According to local newspaper, the farther, Karl, stated that there are well over 50,000 lights on their property each year. As well as lights, they also have laser light shows and an inflatable snowman named John.
Since 2007, the family have been dedicated to raising money for charity. In 2018, they had worked out that just over ten years they had raised £28,600. This year, they look forward to raising enough money past the £30,000 mark.
Benfleet
Benfleet, Essex, home the family of four the Gibbs. The Gibbs are another family that love to get into the festive spirit!
When organising this years display, the father of the family even took holiday from his full time job to get the property ready! Very dedicated.
They started dressing their semi-detached property up for charity since 2014. In the last six years, they have spent over £5000 just on Christmas lights. They believe that when all their lights have been hung up, they have around 50,000 lights bulbs up – similar to the Beetsons in Wellingborough.
Burnham-On-Sea
Nicknamed the ‘most festive street’, Trinity Close in Burnham-On-Sea is always a well decorated Christmas street. The small seaside town 40 miles south of Bristol, has caused lots of conversation over the years.
The cul-de-sac all work together to put up around 100,000 fairy lights all along the houses and street.
This year, the street will be putting the lights up for their own enjoyment, not for charity.
I started writing for PPO back in August 2019. I particularly enjoy writing about new housing developments and upcoming property events.
