You Don’t Need a Car

With the city of Edinburgh being so compact, you can easily make your way around without the need for a car. It doesn’t matter which part of the city you decide to live in, you will never be too far from attractions, shops and parks.

For those times you do need to venture a little further away, you’ll find that the city’s public transport is reliable and readily available, with buses and trams easily accessible. There are also apps that allow you to plan your journey, so you won’t find it difficult to reach any destination.

Plenty to Keep You Busy

Edinburgh always has something to keep everyone entertained. There are so many attractions, shops, bars and restaurants and living in the city only means that you’ll discover all of the hidden gem attractions that only the locals know about!

Take a wander down the Royal Mile, visit the castle, meet the animals at the zoo or enjoy a quiet wander to Arthur’s Seat, situated just 15 minutes from the Royal Mile, and take in the stunning, panoramic views of Edinburgh.

Museums and Art Galleries

Edinburgh has access to so many diverse and interesting museums and art galleries. It’s easy to spend a day getting lost exploring just one of them – take The National Museum of Scotland, for example, this museum has over 8,000 items for you to peruse.

Another fantastic reason to explore and discover everything that these museums and galleries have to offer is that many of them can be visited for free! Edinburgh is home to many places of interest that are completely free to visitors, in addition to the museums and art galleries, including picturesque gardens and stunning cathedrals.

Discovering Nature

Living in a bustling city centre offers so much – constant energy and atmosphere, however, sometimes you may find yourself longing for some peace and quiet and this is where, again, Edinburgh comes into its own.

Those who love to take in the scenery and enjoy being in nature will find plenty of examples of this in Edinburgh – with some of the most impressive parks, hills and trails to be found in Scotland.

Finding a beautiful green space in the city that is within walking distance is not difficult, you can head to the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens, which are free to explore, or you could enjoy a wander by the Water of Leith or the Meadows. The city of Edinburgh really does give the best of both worlds.

A City Built on History

For those who love history, you’ll be sure to fall in love with the city of Edinburgh. There is so much history that surrounds you and with a population dating back several hundred years, you’ll never be far from fascinating historical facts and attractions.

One such attraction is the Real Mary King’s Close which guides you below the characteristic, bustling Royal Mile for you to explore the original houses and closes that were occupied by the people of Edinburgh in the 1600s during the plague.

An Abundance of Job Opportunities

The city offers a huge amount of scope for job opportunities and, as it’s a busy city all year round, there are always vacancies available. Add to this the fact that the city is such a popular tourist attraction, you’ll find that there are also many different types of jobs on offer too.

Moving to Edinburgh will only add to your future employment opportunities, regardless of whether you’re looking for full or part-time employment in a range of different industries.

Edinburgh is a Safe City

With the lowest reported crime rate in the UK, Edinburgh is considered to be one of the safest cities to live in. If you’re considering moving to the city, it may be worth visiting beforehand to see what being out at different hours feels like.

If you feel safe and secure at all times of the day and night, then you can feel reasonably sure that this will continue once you have moved to Edinburgh, just remember to always use common sense when you’re out and about.

It’s Easy to Make New Friends in Edinburgh

Moving to a new city can feel quite lonely but you will not have this problem for long in Edinburgh as it is renowned for being an especially welcoming and friendly city, with many opportunities for making new friends.

It may be at your new place of work where you meet new people to socialise with or, perhaps, at groups you join or by taking part in the local pub quiz. However you choose to spend your time, you will not be lonely for long.

With many people from around the world deciding to settle in Edinburgh you will never be too far from others from your country, so if you’re ever feeling homesick, you can join a group with others from your home country and connect together.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival

We can’t talk about Edinburgh without mentioning the iconic Fringe Festival. This month-long festival sees the city flooded with visitors wanting to take in the incredible talent on show. It’s an amazing event and is still one the most popular and best reasons to visit Edinburgh.

Fantastic Nightlife

Whatever you look for on a night out, you’ll find it in Edinburgh! Whether you’re after a quiet pub to catch up with friends or a lively bar where you can enjoy dancing the night away.

If you’re looking for something a bit different for your night out, then you’ll definitely find what you’re after in Edinburgh, with a whole host of quirky and unusual places to visit, including one of the smallest pubs in the whole of Scotland, jazz bars and haunted pubs that will add a different range of spirits to the mix!

Choosing to live in Edinburgh will not be a decision you’ll regret! You can settle in a house with your family, a fully furnished flat or a shared flat where you can rent a room and get to know others in the area. There really is something to keep everyone entertained – evenings and weekends will never be the same again!
